Message:   I did a little patch job on a friends stucco house over the weekend.(yes Carl,I do have a couple of friends.Probably just because I help them work on their houses )The house was built in the mid 30's.He changed out a window and put in a door.It has hardwood windows (I think probably the original)One layer of tarpaper, and black painted lath.It is a half inch brown coat, and lime finish, that apears to be refinished at some point. It hase not been painted.I had to use an air chisal to get the stucco off. After I got it off, there was not a hint of water damage around the window. Why?What has changed?Back then lumber was kiln dried for weeks, now it is dried for several hours.OSB is crap, the windows have no sill. What kind of movement is in these new silent joist? How much does the wondertrim shrink back,it is obvious that it does not swell when it rains like cedar.Lets save our forest, and build our houses out of "weed species trees" and wonder why we have so many problems.Of coarse we could all just use recycled cardboard siding(masonite)It must be good, code says you can use it
