So did this Jerry Anderson play a part of this "task force" to develop best practices for stucco installation? Is he an expert in stucco/mold and moisture prevention? What are his credentials, other than the present position that he holds? Did he explain the logic behind needing the control joints at these odd locations? If not did anybody care to ask? Usually the reasons for most of these specs are quite logical and very common sense driven, but I can't for the life of me imagine what good it would do to place control joints in such a place as this. Is the stucco guru also looking for caulk joints to be sealed up with the proper sealant? Is he also checking to make sure that the painters do not coat the stucco until it has passed its' proper cure time, or the stucco has reached an acceptable pH level for coating? Is he also making sure that the Coatings' Specialist coated the stucco with the proper material to waterproof the substrate and that it was done in such a fashion to satisfy the porosity of the substrate? (see the posting on April 12 05 Task Force Review an in complete document) In order for a boat to float you have to plug all of its' holes not just some of them. In order for a building envelope to be a successful envelope, all of the contributing factors that attribute to its' success or failure have to be addressed equally. |
