Jerry Anderson, the cities self proclaimed stucco expert,is pushing a new rule. Most of the houses we do that sit on a hillside have OSB running down over the foundation. We are now told that we have to run control joints stairstepped down anywhere the foundation stairsteps. Some of them have 5 or 6 stairsteps. The verticals will more than likely not line up wit the verticals above. You can not run 6 horizonals in an 8 foot wall.So that leaves you with 90 degree corners in the control joint.Any one that knows much about stucco can tell you that will leave some very large cracks at 45 degree angles off of each one.All this started about water intrusion, and now they are causeing more problems with everything else, and I still see houses pass inspection without proper flashing and roof kick outs. These idots are doing a wonderful job of making stucco worse, but not doing much to fix the REAL problem |
